Leave the coast behind and discover the landscapes, history and traditions of southern Tunisia on an unforgettable two-day tour of the Sahara, departing from Tunis or Sousse, with an overnight stay in an authentic camp in the heart of the desert. Your journey south begins in El Jem, home to one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through the ancient arena, explore its underground passages and imagine the gladiatorial spectacles that once brought this exceptional monument to life. Continue on to Matmata, famous for its Berber underground dwellings and unique lunar landscapes. Visit a troglodyte house, discover the local Berber way of life and enjoy a traditional lunch before continuing your journey into southern Tunisia. In the afternoon, head to the Dunes Insolites camp in Sabria, on the edge of the Sahara. Settle into your tent and admire the colours of the desert as they change with the sunset over the dunes. To enhance your adventure, optional activities are available at an additional cost: camel rides, quad bike trips, 4×4 desert excursions and sandboarding. As night falls, enjoy a traditional dinner at the camp, then spend a peaceful evening around the campfire under the starry sky of the Sahara. Spend the night in the tranquillity and unique atmosphere of the Tunisian desert. After breakfast on the second day, leave the camp and cross the spectacular Chott el-Jérid, a vast Tunisian salt lake renowned for its white expanses stretching as far as the eye can see and its fascinating mirages. Continue on to Chebika, a magnificent mountain oasis surrounded by impressive rocky landscapes. Stroll through the ancient Berber village and discover its natural spring, palm trees, canyon and waterfall. On the way back north, stop off at Kairouan, one of Tunisia’s most important historical and spiritual cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before returning to Tunis or Sousse in the evening. In just two days, discover some of Tunisia’s most beautiful attractions: Roman heritage, Berber culture, the Sahara Desert, a night in a camp, salt lake landscapes and a spectacular mountain oasis.
Optional activities: camel rides, 4×4 excursions, quad bike rides and sandboarding. If you would like to take part in any of these activities, please let your guide know in advance. Dinner under the stars and an overnight stay in a tent in the desert.
